What are the consequences of refusal of tourist visa ?

I applied for a france tourist visa to visit my sister in paris. the embassy refused me the visa on the basis of not being able to justify my purpose of visit and conditions of staying there. they've put a stamp on one of my passport pages also. what effect will this have on my future visa applications to various countries? Any kind of information will be extremely valuable. Thanks :)
