Wines names and similar tastes?

I just started wine tasting and so far moscato wine is my favorite, especially one brand name called San Pancrazio ($14). Lightly bubbly, lightly sweet and not to strong in alcohol content. So I tried Merlot and that was nasty! Dry and acidic. So before and spend more on trial and error, how do other kind taste? Such as pinot gringio, Emilia and others? Thanks in advanced
